Crochet stylish woolen striped skirt with mosaic pattern

2025-01-07

Have a great day, everyone! A beautiful day to you all!

Today's tutorial is for a stylish striped skirt with a simple mosaic pattern. I love mosaic patterns, and this one is super easy, repetitive, and the stripes visually slim and lengthen the figure, attracting attention and looking feminine.

I chose a mosaic pattern that's suitable for warmer items, and the finished piece is pleasantly warm. The pattern is easy to memorize; it repeats on each row, and the stitches alternate, creating stripes.

The skirt is crocheted from a very pleasant, thicker sock yarn, Abby 200 wool yarn, a blend of wool and nylon. Thanks to this, the skirt is wonderfully warm, soft, and resistant to pilling and stretching out.

I chose a vibrant dark pink color and a multicolor yarn that also includes dark pink, purple, and deep purple. The skirt is bright with colors, and the multicolor yarn stripes add an interesting liveliness. The skirt is perfect for wearing with leggings.

Abby 200 yarn offers a lot of beautiful vibrant colors. I'm looking forward to hearing which color you chose and whether you used the multicolor or self-striping version.

The skirt has a simple style, gradually widening, and I chose a knee-length. It's crocheted from the waist down, in continuous rounds. You can easily adjust the size, making the skirt wider or narrower, shorter or longer.

This skirt is great not only as an interesting addition to your wardrobe but also for warmth from autumn to spring. And the best part is that you can easily adjust the size to fit anyone. Even a beginner can try it! Doesn't it sound fantastic? Let's get started with the crochet together.

CREATE YOUR OWN STYLISH STRIPED SKIRT WITH A MOSAIC PATTERN

INSTRUCTIONS AND TIPS FOR THE PATTERN

Crocheting comes easily; the pattern repeats nicely within a row and from row to row. With each repetition, the skirt lengthens, and the stripes grow from top to bottom. The skirt has a simple A-line shape. If you want to adjust the size, it's very easy, just crochet more or fewer rows or more or fewer stitches in a row.

NOTES FOR THE PATTERN:

  1. The pattern below is for a girl's size. The pattern and size can be adjusted to your exact size by adding or removing stitches and rows. Remember that a larger size will require more yarn than specified above.
  2. Before you start crocheting, I recommend measuring your waist and the desired length of the skirt.
    • I crocheted the waist of this skirt with 100 rows of a ribbed pattern.
  3. This skirt is crocheted from the waist down to the knee in one piece.
  4. You can easily adjust the width and length of the skirt - instructions can be found in the written pattern. Always check and measure the waist width, hip width, and knee flare.
  5. The skirt is symmetrical, the same width in the front and back.
  6. The pattern between the asterisks ** * * ** means that the pattern repeats across the entire row.
  7. The first chain stitch at the beginning of the row does NOT count as a stitch.
  8. The skirt is crocheted in continuous rounds. The row is joined at the end with a slip stitch into the first stitch of the row.
  9. The waist is crocheted with a ribbed, elastic pattern. There is no need to add a textile elastic or belt.
  10. The body of the skirt is crocheted with a simple mosaic pattern with stripes. The pattern gradually widens, and therefore the skirt also widens.
  11. Measurements: The skirt size is measured when laid flat on a table.
  • Waist circumference: 52 cm / 20.3 inches
  • Height of the elastic hem: 7 cm / 2.7 inches
  • Height of the mosaic pattern: 30 cm / 11.7 inches
  • Skirt length: 37 cm / 14.4 inches
  • Bottom circumference of the skirt: 114 cm / 44.5 inches
  1. Note: The size is measured with the scarf laid flat on a surface (such as a table), before stretching or draping around the body. The final size may vary based on your crochet style and tension.

THE WRITTEN PATTERN
WAISTBAND

Materials:

  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn color A

Instructions: Work in rows, turning at the end of each row.

  • Row 1: Chain 14, single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. Turn.
  • Row 2-100: Single crochet in the back loop of each stitch across. Turn. Repeat this row until the desired waistband length is reached.
  • Join the ends: Slip stitch along both short edges of the waistband, working into the back loop of each stitch to create a neat finish.
  • Add elastic (optional): Fold the waistband in half lengthwise and slip stitch the ends together to form a tube. Thread elastic through the tube and sew the ends of the elastic together.

img_1624-2.jpeg

Note: The number of rows you work will determine the width of your waistband. Adjust as needed to fit your waist.

Great job on getting this far! We've now completed the waistband and are ready to move on to the skirt body.

Would you like me to continue with the instructions for the skirt body? I can provide a detailed explanation of the mosaic stitch and how to increase the stitches gradually to create the A-line shape.

img_9275.jpeg

SKIRT BODY

Hook: 3.5mm Colors: A and B We will be working in continuous rounds, joining each round with a slip stitch into the first stitch. Change colors at the end of each round.

Foundation round: Single crochet in each stitch around. The number of stitches should be divisible by 4 for the mosaic pattern. I have 116 stitches, which gives me 29 repeats of the mosaic pattern.

Row 1: Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around (working in the back loop), slip stitch to join.

Mosaic pattern: From Row 2, we'll be working the mosaic pattern using single crochets in the back loop and double crochets in the front loop of the stitch below.

  • Color B, Row 2: Chain 1, *single crochet in the back loop of the next 3 stitches, mosaic double crochet in the next stitch*, repeat from * to * around, slip stitch to join.
  • Color A, Row 3: Chain 1, *mosaic double crochet in the next 3 stitches, single crochet in the back loop of the next stitch*, repeat from * to * around, slip stitch to join.
  • Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for a total of 5 times.

img_2580.jpeg

Increasing the width:

  • Color B, Row 12: Chain 1, *single crochet in the back loop of the next 3 stitches, 2 mosaic double crochets in the next stitch*, repeat from * to * around, slip stitch to join.
  • Color A, Row 13: Chain 1, *mosaic double crochet in the next 3 stitches, single crochet in the back loop of the next 2 stitches*, repeat from * to * around, slip stitch to join.
  • Continue increasing every few rows by adding one more mosaic double crochet in the designated place.

Adjusting the length: Continue repeating the pattern until you reach your desired skirt length.

  • Note: From Row 30, I switched to a 4.5mm hook and finished on Row 51.

img_2582.jpeg

Remember:

  • The mosaic double crochet is created by inserting your hook into the front loop of the stitch below and working a double crochet.
  • The number of repeats in each row will determine the width of the stripes.
  • Adjust the number of rows and increases to achieve your desired fit.

And that's it for the tutorial! I hope you find this pattern helpful and have a lot of fun crocheting this skirt. If you encounter any problems, don't hesitate to ask. And remember, every piece is unique, so don't be afraid to experiment with colors and patterns. I wish you all the best in your crocheting!
