Delicate Crocheted Lace Angel with a Golden Halo

2024-11-27

Have a Beautiful Day!

As you know, I love crocheting lace decorations, especially angels, during the festive season. I’m always experimenting with new designs, and today, I’m excited to share a pattern for a tall, slender lace angel made from Violka cotton yarn. This angel has a stunning, romantic appearance that feels delicate and fragile—perfect for creating a festive atmosphere. The intricate lace pattern highlights the details, adorned with picots, and the gown is edged with golden thread, giving the angel an elegant and celebratory shine. I’ve also added a simple golden headband for an extra touch of charm.

This angel is ideal as a Christmas decoration or a thoughtful gift for loved ones. It can adorn a Christmas tree, enhance an Advent wreath, or be part of a holiday centerpiece. I’ve designed this pattern for advanced beginners who are ready to try something a bit more intricate. The instructions are easy to follow, and the final result is sure to delight anyone who loves handmade crafts.

A great advantage of this project is that it doesn’t require much yarn. Just a small amount of Violka yarn and a touch of golden thread for the hem and headband is enough. While the traditional white color is classic, you can experiment with other shades to perfectly match your décor.

To make this even easier, I’ve prepared a detailed video tutorial that guides you step-by-step through the process, so even less experienced crocheters can join in.

This angel is quick to make and easy to adapt to your style. I believe its charm will brighten your holiday moments and bring smiles to everyone you gift it to.

CROCHET AN ELEGANT TALL LACE ANGEL WITH VIOLKA

Difficulty Level: Level 1 – Easy, for beginners

US crochet terms:

SlSt – slip stitch
CH/s – chain/s
SC - single crochet
DS - double crochet
sc2tog - 2 single crochet decrease, 2sc together

SK - skip
T - turn
ST/s - stitch(es)
REP – repeat

SC2TOG = 2 single crochets together

Special stitches used:
Single Crochet Decrease (sc2tog)

A crochet decrease makes the current row or round that you are working on shorter than the one previous to it.

1.  Insert hook into the first stitch.
2.  Yarn over and draw through the loop.
3.  Do not complete the stitch as normal.
4.  Instead, insert the hook into the next stitch.
5.  Yarn over and draw through the loop.
6.  There should now be three loops on your hook
7.  Yarn over and draw through all three loops on the hook
8.  You should now have two single crochet stitches side-by-side, joined together into one stitch at the top.

This pattern requires familiarity with stitches used, attaching yarn and sewing parts together with a sewing needle.

Tip for Crocheting Toys:
When crocheting toys or amigurumi, it’s recommended to work decreases through the front loops only. This helps create a tighter stitch and prevents stuffing from showing through.

Practice this technique to achieve smooth decreases for shaping your crochet projects!

What You'll Learn:

- Crocheting with lace patterns.

- Adding decorative picot edges.

- Shaping the gown and wings for a delicate, flowing effect.

- Finishing touches like edging and assembling the angel.

Helpful Tips:

1. Relax and Enjoy: Don’t rush. Crocheting lace is about enjoying the process and watching the delicate details come to life.

2. Experiment with Colors: While white is traditional, consider gold, silver, or even pastel shades for a modern touch.

3. Customize: Adjust the size or add embellishments to make the angel uniquely yours.

CROCHET PATTERN NOTES FOR THE ELEGANT, SLIM LACE ANGEL MADE WITH VIOLKA

HEAD

1. Starting Chain: The initial ch 1 at the beginning of the round does not count as a stitch.

2. Magic Ring: Begin with a magic ring and work in continuous spiral rounds.

3. Working in Spiral Rounds: When crocheting in spiral rounds, avoid joining the round with a slip stitch. Instead, continue crocheting seamlessly into the next round. Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning or end of each round to keep track of your stitch count.

4. Stitch Counts: Numbers in parentheses `( )` indicate the total number of stitches at the end of each round.

BODY & DRESS

5. Starting Chains:

   - Ch 2 at the beginning of a round serves as a substitute for a half-double crochet (hdc).

   - Ch 3 at the beginning of a round serves as a substitute for a double crochet (dc).

6. Magic Ring: Start with a magic ring and work in closed rounds.

7. Closed Rounds: Close each round with a slip stitch into the 2nd or 3rd chain from the beginning of the round.

8. Mesh Pattern: For the last arch, crochet 2 or 3 chains, followed by an hdc, dc, or 2xdc depending on the pattern.

WINGS

9. Starting Chains:

   - Ch 3 at the beginning of a row substitutes for a double crochet (dc).

   - Ch 4 at the beginning of a row substitutes for a 2x yarn-over double crochet (tr).

10. Magic Ring: Begin with a magic ring and work in rows. Turn your work at the end of each row.

11. Symmetry: The wings are crocheted as a single, symmetrical piece.

12. Mesh Pattern: For the last arch, crochet 2 or 3 chains, followed by an hdc, dc, or 2xdc depending on the pattern.

SIZE

13. The finished angel measures 18 cm in height and 10 cm in width.

14. To adjust the size of the angel:

    - Use a larger or smaller crochet hook.

    - Change the yarn weight.

15. Minimal sewing is required for this project. Only the head needs to be sewn to the body as instructed below.

This guide ensures a smooth crocheting process and helps you create a timeless and elegant lace angel perfect for decorations or gifts!

Tips for Success:

1. Take Your Time: Crocheting lace details and assembling the parts requires a bit of patience but yields a stunning result.

2. Customization: Try experimenting with colors for a personalized angel to suit your décor or gifting needs.

3. Finishing Touches: The golden thread on the hem adds a festive sparkle, making the angel look extra special.

Get ready to create a delightful lace angel that will brighten any festive setting or bring joy as a heartfelt gift!
