Beautiful spring days!
I enjoy crocheting small things for joy, and because Easter is perfect for crocheting, I've prepared a pattern for crocheted hens for you.Any scraps of various yarns are enough for crocheting. The crocheting is easy and quick, and you'll soon crochet a whole flock of beautifully colored hens. I designed these hens to serve as egg holders. They can also beautifully serve as a pendant, decoration, pot stake, or bookmark.
We crochet a pattern from double and single crochet stitches, chain stitches, and spaces. Depending on the thickness of the yarn you choose, the hen will be large. You can also play with different color variations - white, yellow, gray, and speckled hens.

INSTRUCTIONS AND NOTES
-
In the tutorial, the 3 chain stitches at the beginning of the row serve as a replacement for a double crochet stitch.
-
I recommend starting with a magic ring.
-
The basket is crocheted in closed rounds, we close the round with a slip stitch.
-
( ) – the number in parentheses indicates the number of stitches in the row after crocheting the entire row.
-
Hen size:
larger: 13 x 11 cm
smaller: 9 x 8 cm
The size may vary depending on the crocheting style and yarn tension.
You can crochet the hens in any size you like, it just depends on the yarn thickness.

BODY: Color A
The 3 chain stitches at the beginning of the row serve as a replacement for a stitch.
Start with a magic ring.
R1: Ch 3, 11 dc into the magic ring, join with a sl st (12 dc)
R2: Ch 3, 1 dc in the first st, 2 sc in the next 10 sts, turn (22 dc)
R3: Ch 3, *1 sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st repeat from * to * until the end of the row, turn (32 dc)
R4: Skip 3 sts, (10 tr) in the next st, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in the next 18 sts, *(ch 2, 1 dc in the next st, 1 sc around the just crocheted dc)* repeat from * to * until the end of the row, continue crocheting and crochet 2 sc around the following dc in rows R3, R2, and R1.
Cut the yarn, and if you are crocheting only a one-sided hen, weave in the loose end.
If you are crocheting the hen as an egg holder or stake, leave a longer tail for sewing.
Repeat the process and crochet the same part again.
Then sew them together. If you are crocheting an egg holder, leave the bottom part unsewn, with an opening wide enough to fit an egg.
Cut the yarn and weave in the loose end.
COMB / WATTLE
Attach new yarn where you want the comb to be positioned.
Color B.
Start crocheting on the head, in the 1st or 2nd stitch:
ch 2, 1 dc in the same stitch, ch 2 and sl st in the next stitch.
Repeat 2 or 3 more times according to taste.
Crochet the same pattern under the beak as a wattle.
Cut the yarn and weave in the loose end.
BEAK
Attach new yarn where you want the beak to be.
Color C.
I recommend in the 6th stitch of row R4:
ch 2, in the next stitch start crocheting a dc that you don't finish, in the next stitch another dc that you don't finish. Join the stitches together.
EYE. You can embroider the eyes with black or another dark yarn, or you can insert small plastic eyes.
Cut the yarn and weave in the loose end.
Fabulous cheerful hens are finished. I believe they will bring joy as a decoration or as a gift for children or grandchildren.
I hope you’ve enjoyed making this free CROCHET pattern.
