Hello My Crochet Friends!

The weather is warming and warming in Central Europe! I made this amazing and romantic paper raffia yarn HAT - I am so excited! It is a chic accessory for sunny days in the City and at the beach as well! The hat is so airy and lightweight and breezy for when that sun is beaming down on you.

You would love to try the new paper yarn RIPA and make a lacy HAT and wear it! 

The hat has a super simple pattern, classic shape and style, I prepared the instructions for a women small and medium size. The size can be adjusted very well and easily to a larger or smaller girl's or women's size.

The patter is perfect for very beginners. 

The hat is crocheted with the paper yarn: RIPA from Vlnika.

I choose a beautiful light blue color - it remains me a nice summer blue sky. There are many different color versions to choose from, according to your taste.

CROCHET SUN PAPER RAFFIA YARN HAT RIPA 

So let me now get started and tell you what you will need in order to crochet this perfect sun PAPER hat!

This sun PAPER hat is crocheted with double crochets and chains only.

The CROCHET SUN PAPER YARN HAT RIPA has a simple construction, crocheted in CLOSED rounds as one piece from top down. 

The CROCHET SUN PAPER YARN HAT RIPA is crocheted with paper yarn RIPA:

For HAT WOMEN SMALL / MEDIUM SIZE: 2 balls  

Size: this can easily be adapted to a smaller size or bigger size just by reducing or increasing the number of stitches in the first row and as well as making less or more rows for the summer hat.

 

 

Recommended Hook: 4.5 mm

Colors: one color

I originally designed this hat for women / teenage size, I wanted it to be very open, very lightweight and airy! Moreover the hat so comfortable to wear in the heat.

The top is a very basic, easy double crochets pattern and it has a lacy brim! The brim is to keep the sun out of your eyes.

The hat is beginner friendly – holding the perfect shape without the help of wires, starch, or glue. 
I’m so happy and so excited to work with paper yarn and to share that I found a way to create the perfect PAPER HAT! 

Everybody will love the PAPER HAT as much as I do!

Difficulty Level: Level 1 – very easy for ultimate beginners  

US crochet term:
SlSt – slip stitch
CH/s – chain/s
SC – simple crochet
SK - skip
T - turn
SP - space
ST/s - stitch(es)
REP - repeat
YO – yarn over

Pattern Notes
1) This pattern below is for woman size, the hat can be easily adapted to a smaller size or bigger size just by reducing or increasing the numbers of stitches and as well as less or more numbers of rows. Remember that when making bigger hat size, you will need more yarn.

WOMEN Size:
Head measurement: 21 inch / 54 cm 
Hat measurement: 21.4 inch / 55 cm
Hat crown size: 6.6 inch / 17 cm
Hat height size: 2.8 inch / 7 cm 
Brim: 3 inch / 7.5 cm 

*Measurements are taken from the garment lying flat, before the yarn has stretched out/dropped.

2) This Pattern is worked in closed rounds / joined rounds, crocheted from the top down using double crochets and chains.

3) A Ch1 at beg of the row doesn't count as a stitch. Ch3 at beg of the row counts as a double crochet.

4) The hat is symmetrical.

5) The entire hat is only one piece as its crocheted in the rounds and there isn’t any extra seaming to join the hat together. 

6) Instructions between two asterisks should be repeated for the remainder of the round

HAT
Crochet Hook 4.50 mm.
Make a magic ring.  

CROCHET PERFECT SUN HAT WITH PAPER YARN RIPA 

Make a magic ring.

Work in closed rounds.
Increase by 10 stitches evenly in each round.

R1: ch3, 9 dc in magic ring. Close the round with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round. (10 dc). 
R2: ch3 (dc), dc in 1st st, 2dc in each st. Close the round with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round. (20 dc)
R3: ch3 (dc), dc in 1st st, 1dc in next st *2dc in next st, 1dc in next st* repeat around from * to * till end of round. Close the round with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round.. (30 dc) 
R4: ch3 (dc), dc in 1st st, 1dc in next 2 st *2dc in next st, 1dc in next 2 st* repeat around from * to * till end of round. Close the round with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round.. (40 dc) 
R5: ch3 (dc), dc in 1st st, 1dc in next 3 st *2dc in next st, 1dc in next 3 st* repeat around from * to * till end of round. Close the round with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round. (50 dc) 
Circumference: 17,5 cm

For bigger sizes: continue like this until there are 60 or 70 double crochet on round

R6: ch3 (dc), dc in 1st st, 1dc in next 4 st *2dc in next st, 1dc in next 4 st* repeat around from * to * till end of round. Close the round with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round. (60 dc) 
Circumference: 19,5 cm

The hat body: 
R1: ch3 (dc), ch2, sk 1 st, *1dc in next st, ch2, sk 1 st* repeat around from * to * till end of round. Close the round with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round.
R2: ch3 (dc), ch2, sk chsp, *1dc in next st, ch2, sk chsp* repeat around from * to * till end of round. Close the round with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round.
R3 - R4: Repeat R2 
Repeat round R2 till you are satisfied with the length of the hat body.

LACY BRIM

R1: sl st in next chsp, (ch3 (dc), dc, ch1, 2dc) in chsp, *2dc, ch1, 2dc* repeat around from * to * till end of round. Close the round with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round.
R2: sl st in next 2 st, (ch3 (dc), dc, ch1, 2dc) in chsp, *2dc, ch1, 2dc* repeat around from * to * till end of round. Close the round with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round.
R3: sl st in next 2 st, (ch3 (dc), dc, ch2, 2dc) in chsp, *2dc, ch2, 2dc* repeat around from * to * till end of round. Close the round with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round.
R4: sl st in next 2 st, (ch3 (dc), dc, ch3, 2dc) in chsp, *2dc, ch3, 2dc* repeat around from * to * till end of round. Close the round with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round.

Cut the yarn. Fasten off.

Add flair to suit your style to really personalize this piece, or leave it as is! With this design being so simple, one of my favorite things about it is how I can accessorize it in all sorts of ways. You can make a crochet chain to tie around it, add a hat band from another hat you have, or wrap a bandana or headband around it! I love to tie a white ribbon around the crown.
