4-square Flower Crochet Poncho Red Heart
Hello my crochet friends!
This poncho is perfect from spring to fall time, great for a transition period between summer and fall time.
In the instructions below, you will find the written pattern for free for the women M size, but you can easily change and size it up or down - lengthen, widen or shorten or narrow it. There is no special shaping in the instructions, so it is absolutely ideal for very beginners.

So let me now get started and tell you what you will need in order to crochet this amazing CROCHET EASY FLOWER PONCHO RED HEART 4 SQUARES.
Super Saver yarn has been a favorite among knitters and crocheters for over 30 years. This 100% acrylic worsted weight, size 4 yarn comes in over 120 beautiful colors, so you will always find the perfect color to complete your project.
Ball size Solids: 198 g/7 oz, 333 meters/364 yards
Ball size Stripe: 141 g/5 oz, 215 m/236 yards
The poncho is made wit: 3 balls (color A, C and D) + 1 ball (color B)
Color A = violet
Color B = striped
Color C = grey
Color D = red
Terina: 100g / 300m / 100% acrylic
You will need 4 balls for M women size.
Scissors and tapestry needle
Remember that when making your poncho bigger you will need more yarn.
3) A ch3 at beg of the round counts as a stitch throughout. A ch4 at beg of the round counts as a stitch throughout.
5) One square measures: 20.3 inch x 20.3 inch // 52 x 52 cm each
THE WRITTEN PATTERN
Make a magic ring
Work in closed rounds. Finish round with 1 slip stitch on the top of the fist st / the first cluster.
Replace first 3tr-cluster on round with 3 chain stitches and 2 trebles joined together.
Replace first 4tr-cluster on round with 3 chain stitches and 3 trebles joined together.
Color A
R1: ch3 (dc), ch1, *1dc, ch1* repeat from * to * 11x around in the magic ring, sl st in 3rd ch from beg of row. (12 repetitions of dc + ch1)
R2: ch3 (dc), 2dc in ch1sp, *1dc in next st, 2dc in ch1sp* repeat from * to * around till end of row, sl st in 3rd ch from beg of row. (12x3dc = 36 dc)
R3: ch3 (tr) + tr2tog, ch5*, repeat (tr3tog, ch5) from * to *, close row with slst on top of the fist cluster. (12 x tr3tog and ch5 between them)
R4: work in ch5sp
ch1, 6sc in ch5sp, *6sc in next ch5sp* repeat from * to * around till end of row, sl st in 1st st at beg of row. (12 x 6sc = 72 sc)
Cut yarn color A and fasten off.
Yarn color B – re-join a new yarn
R5: ch1, 1sc in next 6sc, 1hdc on top of cluster one row below *1sc in next 6sc, 1hdc in next top of cluster one row below* repeat from * to * around till end of row, 1hdc on top of 1st cluster one row below (12 x 7 stitches = 84 st)
Let’s make 4 corners
R6: ch1, 1sc do 1. sl, 1sc in next sc, 1hdc in next st, 1dc in next 3sl,
Corner: (2 tr + ch3 + 2 tr) in the top of the cluster, (the stitch where you crochet hdc in previous row)
Repeat 3times around: 1dc in next 3sc, 1hdc in next sc, 1sc in next 2sc, 1sc in next hdc, 1sc in next 6st, 1sc in next hdc, 1sc in next 2sc, 1hdc in next sc, 1dc in next 3sc
Corner: (2 tr + ch3 + 2 tr) in the top of the cluster, the stitch where you crochet hdc in previous row
Finish the 1st side of the square: 1dc in next 3sc, 1hdc in next sc, 1sc in next 2sc, 1sc in next hdc, 1sc in next 7st, sl st in 1st st at beg of row.
R7: 1sl st in in next 2st, ch1, 1sc in next st, skip 2st, 1dc in next st.
Corner: 1dc in next 2st, (2dc + ch3 + 2dc) in ch3sp, 1dc in next 2st
Repeat 3times around: 1dc in next st, skip 2st, 1sc in next st, skip 2st, 5dc in next st, skip 2st, 1sc in next st, skip 2st, 5dc in next st, skip 2st, 1sc in next st, skip 2st, 1sc in next st, skip 2st, 1dc in next st

R9: ch3 (dc), 2dc in ch2sp, 1dc in sc, ch1, skip 1st, 1dc in next st
Corner: 1dc in next 2st, (2dc + ch3 + 2dc) in ch3sp, 1dc in next 2st
Repeat 3times around:

Corner: 1dc in next 2st, (2dc + ch3 + 2dc) in ch3sp, 1dc in next 2st
Finish the 1st side of the square: 1dc in next st, ch1, skip 1st, 1dc in next st, 2dc in ch2sp, 1dc in next st, 2dc in next ch2sp, 1dc in sc, 2dc in ch2sp, 1dc in next st, 2dc in ch2sp, 1dc in next sc, 2dc in next ch2sp, sl st in 3rd ch from beg of row.
Cut the yarn B and fasten off.
Yarn C – re-join a new yarn
R10: 1sl st in in next 2st in case you continue working with the same yarn.
If you change the yarn, please skip 2 st from the join of the row and re-join a new yarn.
ch3 (dc), ch2, skip 1st and ch1sp, 1dc in dc, ch1, skip 1st, 1dc in next st
Corner: 1dc in next 2st, (2dc + ch3 + 2dc) in ch3sp, 1dc in next 2st
Repeat 3times around: 1dc in next st, ch1, skip 1st, 1dc in next st, ch2, skip ch1sp and 1sl, 1dc in next dc, ch2, skip 2st, 1dc in next st, ch2, skip 2st, 1dc in next st, ch1, skip 1st, 2dc in next st, ch1, skip 1st, 1dc in next st, ch2, skip 2st, 1dc in next st, ch2, skip 2st, 1dc in next st, ch2, skip 1st and ch1sp, 1dc in next st, ch1, skip 1st, 1dc in next st

Cut the yarn C and fasten off.
Yarn A – re-join a new yarn
R12: 1sl st in next 3st to move to dc 1 row bellow.
ch3 (unfinished tr), tr3tog, ch4, skip 1st, tr4tog, ch1
In corner ch3sp: tr4tog, ch2, 2tr3tog, ch2, tr4tog,
Repeat 3times around: ch1, *tr4tog, ch4, skip 1st, ch1* repeat from * to * till corner ch3sp
In corner ch3sp: tr4tog, ch2, 2tr3tog, ch2, tr4tog,
Finish the 1st side of the square: ch1, *tr4tog, ch4, skip 1st, ch1* repeat from * to * till beg of row, sl st in 3rd ch from beg of row
Cut yarn color A and fasten off.
Yarn C – re-join a new yarn
R13: ch4 (tr), 4 tr in ch4sp, 4 tr in ch4sp,
Corner: tr in the top of the cluster, tr in ch1sp, tr in the top of the cluster, 3 tr in ch2sp, ch3, 3 tr in ch2sp, tr in the top of the cluster, tr in ch1sp, tr in the top of the cluster
Repeat 3times around: 4 tr in ch4sp* repeat from * to * till corner.
Corner: tr in the top of the cluster, tr in ch1sp, tr in the top of the cluster, 3 tr in ch2sp, ch3, 3 tr in ch2sp, tr in the top of the cluster, tr in ch1sp, tr in the top of the cluster
Finish the 1st side of the square: *4 tr in ch4sp* repeat from * to * till beg of row. sl st in 3rd ch from beg of row
Cut the yarn C and fasten off.
Yarn D – re-join a new yarn. Re-join a new yarn in corner ch3sp
R14: Corner: (ch3 (dc), 1dc, ch3, 2dc) do ch3sp, ch1
1dc in next st, *ch1, skip 1st, 1dc in next st* repeat from * to * till corner
Repeat 3times around:
Corner: (2dc, ch3, 2dc) do ch3sp, ch1
1dc in next st, *ch1, skip 1st, 1dc in next st* repeat from * to * till corner
repeat from * to * till corner. Close the row with a sl st in 3rd ch from beg of row.
Re-join a new yarn in corner ch3sp, make a row of double crochet stitches.
R15: Corner: (ch3 (dc), 1dc, ch3, 2dc) do ch3sp,
1dc in next st, *1dc in next ch1sp, 1dc in next st * repeat from * to * till corner
Repeat 3times around:
Corner: (2dc, ch3, 2dc) do ch3sp,
1dc in next st, *1dc in next ch1sp, 1dc in next st * repeat from * to * till corner.
Close the row with a sl st in 3rd ch from beg of row.
If you want to make a square bigger, repeat row R14 and R15 till you are satisfied with the length of your square.
Repeat the instruction and make 4 squares:
FRONT square (1)
Square on RIGHT side (2)
Square on LEFT side (3)
BACK square (4)
The size of the square: 52 x 52 cm
Join squares
With your yarn and hook you will now join the squares together, making sure they are RIGHT sides facing you.
Remember not to make your stitches too tight and not too loose.
Start in the right corner of the front square and work from bottom to neck edge.
Color C
Join squares 1 and 2:
Re-join a new yarn in corner space, make ch1
Attach square 2 and make 1sc in corner space on square 2, ch1.
We joined squares in the corner in chain space.
Alternate 1sc on one square, ch1, on second square: skip 1st and 1sc in next st, repeat ch1, on first square skip 1st, 1sc in next st, repeat ch1. Repeat till you reach the corner.
Finish with 1sc in corner space on the first square.
Now let’s join square 1 and 3, work from up to bottom till corner on left side: make ch1.
Attach square 3 and make 1sc in corner space on square 3, ch1.
We joined squares in the corner in chain space.
Alternate 1sc on one square, ch1, on second square: skip 1st and 1sc in next st, repeat ch1, on first square skip 1st, 1sc in next st, repeat ch1. Repeat till you reach the corner.
Now let’s join square 4 and 2, and 4 and 3.
Making sure squares are RIGHT sides facing you.
Repeat instructions „how to join squares 1 and 2 and 1 and 3.
Cut the yarn C and fasten off.
Now that your poncho is assembled you will hide all loose tails in the wrong side of your work and turn it right side facing you.
You will now work on the neck opening.
Make a neck opening:
With the right sides facing you, with your hook and yarn join with a slip knot to the front V corner of the neck opening. Join at the bottom of the V neck = start in the corner:
Color C
R1: ch1, 1sc, ch1
Work along the side: 1sc in next chsp, *ch1, skip 1st, 1sc in next st* repeat from * to * till V corner on the opposite side: 1sc in next 3chsp and then work along the side: *ch1, skip 1st, 1sc in next st*repeat from * to * till beg of row.
In chsp before the V corner in the middle work 1sc.
Close the row with sl st in 1st st at beg of row.
Cut the yarn C and fasten off.
Color A
R2: Re-join a new yarn.
We have 3sc in middle V corner. Start in 1st st and make tr3tog (ch3 = 1st tr).
Then work 2 tr in each ch2sp till V corner on the opposite side. Work tr3tog. Then repeat 2 tr in each ch2sp till beg of row. Close the row with sl st in 1st cluster at beg of row.
R3: ch3 (dc), repeat around: ch2, skip 2st, 1dc in next st. Close the row with sl st in 3rd ch at beg of row.
R4: ch1, 1sc in 1st st in V corner, 1sc in chsp in next st, repeat 2sc in each ch2sp till chsp in middle st in V corner on the opposite side, work 1sc in chsp, 1sc in middle st and 1sc in next chsp. Then repeat 2sc in each ch2sp.
Close the row with sl st in 1st st at beg of row.
Cut yarn color A and fasten off.
Color B
R5: Re-join a new yarn.
Single crochet Row.
Work 1sc in each sc around, in V corners work sc3tog.
Close the row with sl st in 1st st at beg of row.
Cut the yarn B and fasten off.
Color A
R6: Re-join a new yarn
ch1, 1sc, work along the side: ch2, skip 2st, 1sc in next st, in V corners work sc3tog.
Close the row with sl st in 1st st at beg of row.
R7:
Single crochet Row.
Work 1sc in each sc st and 2sc in ch2sp, in V corners work sc3tog.
Close the row with invisible join.
Cut yarn color A and fasten off.
Make an edge around the bottom of poncho:
With the right sides facing you, with your hook and yarn join with a slip knot to any corner. Work a finishing edge around the bottom of poncho.
Work in closed rounds. Finish round with 1 slip stitch on the top of the fist st / the first cluster.
Color D
R1: start 1st before the corner,
*corner: 5sc in ch3sp, then 1sc in each st, in the join of the square: 1sc in next 2 chsp, then 1sc in each st to next corner *
Close the row with invisible join. Cut yarn color A and fasten off.
Make a drawstring
Color A and B, make a 2 sides chain with 2 strands. Pull the string through the neckline border ch2 spaces around.
Fasten off, hide all loose tails in the back of your work and you are all done my friends.
You just created a beautiful 4 SQUARES FLOWER Poncho!
