Crochet Cute Butterfly - easy and quick
I love Butterflies crochet. Butterflies are one of the first things the Beginners ever crochet. This cute and quick crochet butterfly pattern makes the perfect Spring addition to any outfit or home and hooks up super quickly.
I love to use crochet cute little things as accessories. These Cute Butterflies are so incredibly easy to crochet, so I’d like to share this pattern with you today. And moreover - small projects like these are great for using up scrap yarn!
I also love how versatile embellishments are. Whether you want to add a brooch back and create a unique piece of jewellery, add a sweet detail to a scarf or hat. Any other ideas from you? It would be great as an embellishment on a wreath or a wallhanging. And, of course this crochet butterfly would be lovely as a magnet for your refrigerator.
They’re also perfect for Easter.
This free crochet butterfly pattern is so fun to crochet and very fast to put together. Any scraps will do.

This is my List of HAPPY EASTER HOLIDAY crochet patterns I prepared for you – they are available for free and they comes with video tutorials as well. There is something for everyone. This pattern is made for beginners - only a basic skill level is required to make it. If you don't understand any of my instructions, don't worry I am here for you - enter the comments at the end of this post.
Crochet CUTE BUTTERFLY Directions
This lovely CUTE BUTTERFLY is easy and quick to make.
The pattern uses only basic crochet stitches - double crochets and triple crochets. I added a simple chain for the body and antennas.
The Butterfly is crochet in rows.
FREE CROCHET CUTE BUTTERFLY PATTERN
Here is what you will need:
Yarn: You can use any yarn you like - for this project is great to use up scrap yarns!
For this pattern you will need 2.00 or 3.0 mm crochet hooks. Or another comfortable sized hook
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Small amounts of any worsted weight yarn.
For a bigger butterfly I would recommend you to used up Spagoyarn Cottonel or YarnArt Jeans, 55 % Cotton 45% Acrylic, 50 gr. / 160 m, 1.76 Oz. / 174 yds
For a smaller butterfly you can use: YarnArt Begonia: 100% cotton, mercerized cotton, 50g = 169m
Difficulty Level: Level 1 – Easy, for beginners
The pattern uses the following basic US crochet stitches:
CH/s – chain/s
TR - treble / tripple crochet
DC - double crochet
DTR - double treble
SC - single crochet
SK - skip
T - turn
ST/s - stitch(es)
REP - repeat
Special stitches used: Picot Stitch
Picot stitch directions: Create three chain stitches from the point in your row where you want to add the picot stitch. Insert your hook in the third chain from the hook. Yarn over and pull the yarn through the stitch and through the loop on the hook. This is one completed picot stitch.
TREBLE CROCHET (TR)
A treble crochet (sometimes called triple crochet) is taller than a double crochet and is made by working two yarn overs at the start of the stitch, instead of one yarn over as for double crochet. It is abbreviated tr.
STEP 1: Yarn over twice, insert the hook into the work (fifth chain from hook on the starting chain).
STEP 2: * Yarn over and draw yarn through, pulling up a loop.
STEP 3: Yarn over again and pull yarn through the first two loops only on the hook.
STEP 4: Yarn over again and pull yarn through the next two loops only on the hook.
STEP 5: Yarn over again and pull yarn through the last two loops on the hook.
STEP 6: One treble made. Yarn over twice, insert hook into next stitch; repeat from * in step 2.
DOUBLE TREBLE CROCHET (DTR)
A double treble crochet (sometimes called double triple crochet) is taller than a double and treble crochet and is made by working three yarn overs at the start of the stitch, instead of one yarn over as for double crochet. It is abbreviated dtr.
STEP 1: Yarn over three times, insert the hook into the work (sixth chain from hook on the starting chain).
STEP 2: * Yarn over and draw yarn through, pulling up a loop.
STEP 3: Yarn over again and pull yarn through the first two loops only on the hook.
STEP 4: Yarn over again and pull yarn through the next two loops only on the hook.
STEP 5: Yarn over again and pull yarn through the last two loops on the hook.
STEP 6: Yarn over again and pull yarn through the last two loops on the hook.
STEP 6: One double treble made. Yarn over three times, insert hook into next stitch; repeat from * in step 2.
Crochet CUTE BUTTERFLY pattern:
With color 1, make a magic ring.
R1: Work the following in the magic ring: Ch3 (counts as 1st dc), 2dc, ch 2, *3 dc, ch 2, repeat from * to * 4 more times (5 clusters). Fasten off color 1.
R2: Attach color 2 in last finished stitch.
ch3 (counts as 1st dc),
[3dc, ch2, 3dc] in each ch2sp.
1dc in the last st from previous row
Make 4 clusters around. Fasten off color 2.
R3: Attach color 3 in last finished stitch
ch3 (counts as 1st dc),
[2dc, 2tr, 1dtr, picot, 1dtr, 2tr, 4dc] in next ch2sp
[4dc, 2tr, 1dtr, picot, 1dtr, 2tr, 2dc] in next ch2sp
[2dc, 2tr, 1dtr, picot, 1dtr, 2tr, 4dc] in next ch2sp
[4dc, 2tr, 1dtr, picot, 1dtr, 2tr, 2dc] in next ch2sp
1dc in the last st from previous row.
Make 4 clusters around. Fasten off color 3.
ANTENNAES:
Chain 30 or enough chain stitches to wrap around the Butterfly.
Fasten off and tie a knot on each end of chain.
Pull yarn tight and cut close to the knot.
MAKING THE BUTTERFLY - ASSEMBLY:
Wrap body chain up and around the body, the antennas at the top. Make a knot.
And it is done! A crochet butterfly pattern that is fast and free.
You can now sew on a brooch fitting or a safety pin in order to turn into a broach.
Or sew on another project!
Measurement:
Bigger Butterfly is 9.5 cm / 3.5 inch tall
4.5 inch / 11.5 cm wide
Body is 1.5 inch / 3 cm long
Smaller Butterfly is 6 cm / 2.2 inch tall
3.5 inch / 9 cm wide
Body is 1 inch / 2.5 cm long
